There is so much to see and do in Rio de Janerio, that I decided to narrow it down to some beautiful picture perfect locations that you might want to see! Read on to see some of my favourite Instagram worthy spots in Rio de Janeiro.
Copacabana Beach
Where is it?
Copacabana Beach runs along the South Atlantic coast in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro.
What makes it instagram worthy?
This is the absolute classic shot of Rio de Janeiro. Brazilians are known for their epic beach culture, so where better to get that ‘gram shot than one of the world’s most famous beaches?
Top tip?
Be traveller savvy. Thieves can take advantage of such a busy location. Keep your belongings safe (or leave them at home) and always be aware of your surroundings.

Christ the Redeemer
Where is it?
At the very top of Corcovado mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park overlooking the city of Rio de Janeiro. You’ll need to grab a bus/uber/funicular to get to the top.
What makes it instagram worthy?
Hello?! It’s one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, and it’s absolutely iconic. I can’t believe you’re actually asking this question.
Top tip?
You don’t have to pre-purchase tickets to get to the top, and don’t let any of the scammers at the entry tell you otherwise. Also, get there super early – it’s hot AF at the top of that mountain.

Barra da Tijuca
Where is it?
You’ll find Barra in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro – the very end of the metro train line. Just get off at the last stop.
What makes it instagram worthy?
Although Copacabana is the most famous beach, this is where the locals go to swim. You’ll find a more chill atmosphere, more smiling faces, and perhaps even a bit more beach to yourself if you’re lucky.
Top tip?
Set up with one of the local umbrella and beach chair rental stations. It doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, they’ll fetch you food and drink whenever you need it and you’ll just generally feel like a queen (or king).

Mirante Dona Marta
Where is it?
You’ll find it adjacent to Christ the Redeemer, just a short cab ride away.
What makes it instagram worthy?
All the Christ the Redeemer views without the crowds. You’ll be in cat swinging bliss.
Top tip?
Definitely get a cab or an uber. You kinda have to go through some weird neighbourhoods to get there and go a few km’s uphill. Also, make sure you ask your driver to wait so you can get back down the hill again.

Sugarloaf
Where is it?
It’s right next to Copacabana. You can’t miss it. It’s one of the three iconic landmarks that make up the Rio de Janeiro skyline.
What makes it instagram worthy?
Once again you’re getting some beautiful views, and a unique aspect of the Rio de Janeiro coastline. Plus who doesn’t love a gondola ride?
Top tip?
Go up for lunch! It’s one of the few touristy places where I can say that the food was reasonably priced and actually delicious. It was an extremely special experience!

Telegraph Stone
Where is it?
About an hour south of Rio in Barra de Guaratiba. Take a bus, hire a car or grab an Uber.
What makes it instagram worthy?
Those perspective shots! What looks like a crazy feat is actually just a meter off the ground.
Top tip?
Get there super early. I’m not even joking. Apparently the line for a picture can get up to 4 hours long. We got there around 8am and still had to wait half an hour.

Selaron Steps
Where is it?
Escadaria Selarón, or the Selaron Steps, is located in Lapa, right in the center of Rio de Janeiro.
What makes it Instagram worthy?
The colours. The story. The passion of the artist. You can decide that one. Whatever the reason, we can all agree it makes for a pretty picture and definitely an Instagram worthy spot in Rio de Janeiro.
Top tip?
This one takes a bit of preparation. Leave your handbag, your watch and your expensive jewellery at home – don’t make yourself a target for opportunistic thieves. Get there super early in the day, or have some patience – the crowds will be epic. Do go all the way to the top – sure the words “Rio de Janeiro” are near the bottom, but you’ll want to see every step of this beautiful work of art.

Any Lapa Bar!
Where is it?
The party central of Rio de Janeiro! Put “bar” and “Lapa” in any search engine and you’ll find plenty of places to choose from.
Why is it Instagram worthy?
The music. The colours. The culture. The FUN! The bars are the Brazilian party culture in a picture.
Top tip?
We opted for salsa bars, as the preparations for Carnival had started. Plenty of bands practicing their tunes and some dances to go along with it. Be prepared for a late night – Brazilians don’t start the party until midnight!

Bonus – Buzios
Where is it?
Buzios is the summer getaway haven for Cariocas. Found about 170kms east of Rio de Janeiro city, the coastal town boasts 20 pristine beaches and some wild nightlife.
What makes it Instagram worthy?
Did you not hear me when I said pristine beaches? You can also get your scuba on in it’s shallow waters, perfect if you’re new or trying out scuba diving. Oh, and there’s some amazing bikini stores if you need a wardrobe update.
Top tip?
Book in your accommodation early if you’re heading there during any holiday seasons. Brazilians absolutely love this place.

Rio de Janeiro takes the cake, right? There’s so many places to see and so many things to do, you don’t need to a photographer or an “instagrammer” (whatever that is) to really appreciate the beauty of this famous Brazilian state.
