When you’re not exploring all that Bohol has to offer, take some time to scuba dive Bohol, specifically around the small island of Panglao and the gorgeous Balicasag Island.
Balicasag Island is a short 45 minute boat ride off Alona Beach on Panglao island, the small island attached to Bohol island by a bridge. You’ll have an early start to get the best the island has to offer. Out on Balicasag you’ll find turtles, jackfish and a variety of macro life – more than I’ve ever seen! The shallow reefs and walls dives are full of healthy marine life, and if you’re lucky you’ll get a small current to drift you along.
The dive sites around Alona Beach may not be as pretty as Balicasag Island, but you’ll find some fun there. My favourite stop here was a small shipwrecked yacht where an adorable frog fish lived.
Want to see more? Check out this short video of our dives there! …and the moment the frogfish scared the shit out of me. Seriously… I’ve never seen them move before.
Most dive shops hit up Balicasag Island daily, but numbers are limited by the local authorities, so make sure you book your spot in. Matt and I used Bohol Divers Club, and they were really good, and quite fun to dive with!
Super keen to see more scuba diving around the Philippines? Check out my posts on Moalboal and Malapascua Island!
