If you’re looking for a very special and unique day out, look no further! Trains, cableways, rainforest and waterfalls… all while sitting on your butt. What damn else do you want? Maybe a visit to the cute village of Kuranda? Come on team! Time to go exploring… Lazy exploring!

Your day starts by getting on the Kuranda Scenic Rail. Get your tickets (or your ticket package if you want a sweet deal). Hot Tip: try and get on either the front or the back of the train, so you can see it moving around the bends while you’re on it!

It’s has very old carriages, so don’t expect a lot of comfort! Haha.

Up the tableland, though the suburbs, sugarcane fields, and rainforest.

You even get a quick glimpse of Stoney Creek Falls – which is a good way to see Stoney Creek if you don’t want to go on a hectic hike.

After a cruisey ride, you arrive in Kuranda. Your first sight… a pub!

Meander through the markets, grab some grub at the variety of nice restaurants and have a look around at the different attractions like the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary. It’s a hippy, laid back kinda town, so if you’re into that, check out each and every store to see the unique shit they have to sell. Oh and hit up the fudge store. Fucking love that place. They make boozy rum and raisin fudge that is to die for.

After all the food and fudge, you’ll be feeling another “F” word… fat. Take a walk through the rainforest hiding behind the Kuranda markets to get a taste of what tropical north queensland has to offer. Especially if you can’t make it to the Daintree.

Ok so now you’re feeling better about your life choices (ie, digested some of that food) and you’re ready for your next hit of adventure. Jump on the Sky Rail to head back down into Cairns. You’ll pass over the heritage listed rainforest and see just how green it can get!

The best bit is that you can hop off half way down and check out the incredible Barron Falls. Did I promise you waterfalls or not? Break up the monotony by jumping off the moving SkyRail and taking a short stroll to the Falls lookout.

Once you’ve reached the bottom you can get the shuttle bus back or catch an uber back to wherever you need to go! Like I said earlier, the round trip can be done as a package deal, so hit that up. It’s the perfect day out when you’re feeling a little lazy or it’s a bit rainy. Kuranda is a beautiful town, and shouldn’t be missed on your trip to Cairns!
