Hidden up in the hills, east of Perth, resting among residential housing is Lesmurdie Falls. It took 35 mins for me and the pups to drive from Fremantle to the top of the falls, where the trail starts. We turned up at 10.30 ish, and the carpark was full. Lucky I was in Frank the Tank; we just mounted a gutter and parked on the side of the road.
We headed straight down the trail, stopping only for the lookouts. It wasn’t too steep, but I still took it slow, letting the dogs lead the way, stopping for photos and to let people pass. The trail was quite thin and I had to keep the dogs out of the way so we didn’t trip others up!
Once we got to the bottom, we walked along the bubbling brook until we got to the bottom of the falls. The bottom was far more busy than the hike up and down the hill. I couldn’t even get a clear shot of the falls!
The hike back up was lovely. Some cloud started covering the sun, so the weather stay cool while my body heated up climbing all those stairs.
We passed the car park to look at the small rapids a little further up the trail. It was a nice way to finish up the 4 km round trip.
The hike took me about an hour and a half to 4.5 km. You could extend it – there were a few extra trails that I didn’t take. Also, you could do it faster – I was really meandering, I had already done a BodyStep class that morning.
