So you’ve found yourself with one day in Singapore. Whether it’s a stop between flights or a planned visit, you’ll be wanting to cram as much into your day as possible… I know I did! So let me help you decide what to do while you’re spending one day in Singapore!

Find a cafe with amazing coffee to kick off your day in Singapore

Singapore has some great coffee, and after 4 months in Indonesia and Philippines, good coffee was a gift from the caffeine gods. Make sure your one day in Singapore is a good one, and get some of that liquid energy!

Head on down to Marina Bay

Plenty to see here! Take in the views of Marina Bay Sands, check out Merlin Park and feast your eyes on all the beautiful architecture around the bay.

Grab lunch at a Hawker Market

There’s plenty to choose from, but one of the bests is Lau Pa Sat Food Court. Hawker Markets have a variety of food too, so it caters to all cravings.

Walk through Chinatown

Such a beautiful part of the city, rich in colour and life. Get yourself some new and crazy cheap electronics or try the freshly cut durian.

Brave the heat to see Gardens by the Bay

Amazingly planned and such a gorgeous site. If you can stand the heat, walk around the grounds. If you can’t, jump inside the air conditioned greenhouses – that’s where the magic is anyway!

Head to the top of Marina Bay Sands

Grab a sundowner at the top of the world! It costs $20 SGD to get up there, but you get a $20 credit towards your first drink. And if you’re not getting a Singapore Sling, you’re just doing life wrong!

Time for Dinner at Din Tai Fung

Not exclusively in Singapore, but still the best dumplings I’ve ever had, ever. They shut up pretty early, so be sure to get there before closing time. There’s Din Tai Fung in Sydney, and that’s where we first fell in love with it.

If you can handle it, do some shopping

You might be tired and travel weary, but the shopping in Singapore is pretty darn good. Electronics are ridiculously cheap. So is diving equipment. Clothing isn’t necessarily cheap, but there’s great variety.

You’ve made it! Jump into bed or jump onto your next flight because you’re officially done with Singapore! Save the rest for your next layover! I know I’ll be back, for sure.

Accommodation…

Matt and I stayed at the Mercure Singapore Bugis, which was reasonably priced (for Singapore) and close to the metro.

Getting around…

The metro is the best way to get around, super cheap and clean. Incredibly easy to use – even Google Maps/Directions will help you there.
