Fishing in Coromandel

If you’re heading up to the Coromandel in New Zealand, and are looking for a unique way to see the beautiful coastline, why not try fishing?

I’m not a mad fishing fan, but my Dad absolutely loves it. So up we got at stupid o’clock in the morning (seriously, it was still dark), and got on a boat with Coro Cowboys, ready to seize the day!

Whilst we motored out to our prime fishing location, we got to enjoy the most magnificent sunrise. It was worth being up that early just to see all those glorious colours.

The fishing wasn’t that bad either! Between my Dad and the Skipper I hardly even had to touch the bait, and I ended up catching the biggest fish! Dad reckons he caught the most fish, but I’m not sure about that one. Can you tell we’re competitive? But honestly, I caught the biggest fish, so I won… right?

It was a great way to spend the morning. The fish were active and we barely had 10mins without catching one. Of course, because we were #vanlife, we couldn’t exactly keep our fish, but we kept 2, took them down to the Coromandel Fish and Chips shop, and they cooked them up for us! So not only could we catch our fish, but we could eat it too! Delicious.

So what do you reckon? Would you try out fishing in the Coromandel?
