The sun was finally shining in Perth and it was the perfect day to jump on our bicycles and check out what Swan Valley had to offer us.

Our first stop was Lancaster wines, one of my favourites. We did a tasting of their white range (their sparkling was deliciously refreshing after our ride) and bought a bottle of their rose and some cheeses to share. The rose here is the best rose I’ve ever had, it has a very distinct taste of strawberries. Of course we couldn’t finish a whole bottle, but it was significantly cheaper to buy the bottle than by the glass. We each had two glasses and then gave the remainder of the bottle to a group of girls who were parked up for the day.

Next we rode on over to Ugly Duckling wines. We did a few red tastings, the the sparkling shiraz was so good on the hot day, but we went for a couple of glasses of their Summer Duck red and a cheese platter. It was a lovely spread of cheese, pate and fruits, perfect for the warm spring day.

After our tummies were full, we jumped back on the bikes and took a scenic route over the Swan River through to the next winery.

Sittella winery is a fancy place, and they had a wedding on. We did a full range of testing here, including a sweet muscat. Everything was good, but not as amazing as the first two places.

Next we happened upon Jarrah Ridge wines, the smallest of the wineries that we visited. Here we tasted both their whites and reds, and they had some Margaret River cheese and marinated olives to go with the tasting. Whilst the wine was ordinary, the Sicilian olives were so, so good! We both bought a jar to take home.

Next we doubled back for our last stop… the Cheese Barrel. I can never get enough cheese. Here we shared a single cheese board with some sangria. We chose their most popular cheese; a creamy brie. We were quite toasty at this point. Once we were done it was time to ride back to the house to get changed for the evening date.

We had tickets for Brewed Laughter – a beer tasting with a comedian. It was held at Ironbark Brewery, a beautiful spot with a rustic setup. The show itself was a bit average… mostly it was beer facts being read by comedian, with a couple of jokes thrown in. The beer was good though, and the food was plentiful…. more cheese and cheesy pizza.

Ok I was done with cheese for one day. It was a great day, and the BEST way to spend our first warm Spring day.
